Newark is a city in New Castle County, Delaware, 12 miles west-southwest of Wilmington with an estimated population of 30,060 on 2006 Census estimates. It is located almost midpoint between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Newark has a Rail Station,  located to the south of downtown near the University of Delaware campus that is serviced by both SEPTA and AMTRAK on the Northeast Corridor with SEPTA service during rush hours, weekdays only and the AMTRAK fairly limited with few trips daily but AMTRAK access is easy via Wilmington, only 12 miles away.

EDUCATION
Public education in Newark is handled by the Christina School District and the Red Clay Consolidated School District and includes Newark High School, the third largest public high school in the state of Delaware and Christiana High School.  Newark is home to the University of Delaware with its world-class programs in business, chemical engineering, chemistry and biochemistry. In 2006, the University of Delaware's engineering program was ranked number 10 in the nation by The Princeton Review.

RECREATION
Despite the fact that Newark is located near to major highways and roughly halfway between two of the nation's largest cities, it is surrounded by a large amount of public parkland with great access to hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding. To the south is Iron Hill Park (part of the New Castle County Park System), to the west is Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area (part of Cecil County, Maryland),  and to the North is White Clay Creek State Park and White Clay Creek Preserve (both located in Chester County, Pennsylvania). It is also close to the Middle Run Natural Area, part of the New Castle County Park System.
