Hockessin (pronounced HO kes sin) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in New Castle County, Delaware in the United States. It is located west of the city of Wilmington and is easily accessible via Route 41 (also known as Newport-Gap Pike) and Route 48 (also known as Lancaster Pike).  Both Routes 41 and 48 merge together near the border of Hockessin. The population was 12,902 at the 2000 census. Hockessin is one of the fastest growing areas in Delaware. Since 1990, the population has tripled. It is located approximately 10 miles from Greater Newark, DE and only 40 miles from Philadelphia, PA. For its commuter residents, it is only 10 minutes to it's Newark and Wilmington stations.

Hockessin has schools within the public school system including the HB Dupont Middle School, and private schools available including Hockessin Montessori and The CACC Montessori School at the elementary/middle school level, and private high schools including the Sanford School and Wilmington Christian School.  Private Parochial Schools easily accessible from Hockessin include Salesianum (rated as one of the nation's top 50 High Schools) and St Marks High School in Pike Creek Valley. For post-secondary opportunities in and around the area, Hockessin is located minutes to the University of Delawre in Newark, Goldey Beacom College in Pike Creek Valley and Widener Univeristy in North Wilmington.

RECREATION
Situated on the northern part of Delaware, Hockessin is within close proximity to White Clay Creek State Park, and Delcastle Recreational Center, offering golf, tennis soccer and baseball fields plus a wallking and jogging track. The newly opened Hockessin Athletic Club (HAC)  and the Police Athletic Center (PAL) are located in Hockessin.  Hartefeld Golf Course and Country Club is less than five minutes north of Hockessin.  Hockessin also offers easy access to Kennett Square PA, a quaint country town known for it fine dining and shopping and as the "Mushroom Capital of the World".
